First Cyber Sciences Laboratory (CSL) Workshop

Oak Ridge National Laboratory
January 8 – 10, 2013

During the past year, a number of face-to-face meetings have been conducted to explore and establish a path forward for organization and establishment of the Department of Energy (DOE) Cyber Sciences Laboratory. These meetings have been held at DOE HQ, The University of Texas at Arlington, and at Google in Chicago, and have enjoyed the participation of the DOE Office of Science and Office of the CIO (OCIO), the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) OCIO, and National Lab Directors and Chief Research Officers, among others. Directors of the National Laboratories and their Chief Research Officers have been briefed. Representatives from the research community and cyber defenders have also participated to discuss and refine ideas for establishing a visionary, science-based Cybersecurity program to benefit the broad needs of the DOE, while supporting National priorities.

A number of very positive results have materialized, including a CSL Charter and a research roadmap. This first workshop of the CSL will enable discussions of the research and development (R&D) program that the community would like to pursue.

The agenda is not yet available. A keynote from NNSA CIO Robert Osborn is planned.

Meeting Location

All meetings will occur on-site at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Conference Center co-located upstairs from the Visitor Center in the Tennessee Room (202A, B and C).
